CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />Green Policy <br />V. ADDITIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS FOR CONSIDERATION <br />• Household hazardous waste— Haulerto provide an annual drop-off event at no additional <br />charge. This will replace the Door -to -Door Household Hazardous Waste Collection which has not <br />been utilized by residents due to the high cost of the program. <br />• Medication disposal program —Selected hauler will be required to promote local medication <br />take -back programs. <br />• Document shredding events— Provide one time per year. <br />• Compost give-away events— Provide one time per year. <br />• Multi -family bulky item collection at no additional cost. <br />• Enhanced cleanup of abandoned items in parkways and alleys. <br />• Recycling Block Party — Recognize a residential neighborhood that consistently puts out their <br />recycling containers (set out) and has minimal contamination of recyclable materials by hosting <br />a block party. <br />• Environmental Ambassador Program — Recognize businesses and restaurants that have <br />implemented source -reduction, reuse, recycling, and other environmental programs at City <br />Council meetings and coordinate presentations with Chamber of Commerce and/or other <br />community meetings. <br />• Processing of mixed commercial/multi-family waste for customers that do not participate in the <br />source -separated recycling program where recyclables will be removed from mixed waste (trash <br />and recyclables) at a materials recovery facility. <br />• Produce an Environmental Directory for residents and businesses which lists'all opportunities <br />for reuse, source -reduction, and recycling. <br />• Support extended producer responsibility legislation for toxic and difficult to recycle items. <br />• Support state and national legislation that requires manufacturers to reduce packaging and to <br />incorporate recycled content materials in all packaging. <br />Draft, October 9, 2018 <br />65A-21 <br />
