ARTICLE VI <br />6.0 OVERTIME <br />6.1 General Policy for Overtime Work. When it shall be determined to be in the public <br />interest for employees to perform overtime work, or in an emergency situation, <br />the City Manager, the Department Head, or a duly authorized representative of <br />the City Manager or the Department Head, may require an employee to perform <br />overtime work. <br />6.2 Definition. Overtime work is defined as, <br />A. That authorized or required time worked in excess of 40 hours per work week. <br />A workweek is a fixed and regularly recurring period of 168 consecutive <br />hours — 7 consecutive 24-hour periods — as designated by the appointing <br />authority, An employee's work schedule within the workweek shall not be <br />changed to avoid payment of overtime; provided, however, nothing shall <br />abridge management's right to establish and change work schedules and <br />assignments in accordance with the rights of management contained in <br />Article XX, City Rights, infra. <br />B. Work on any regularly scheduled non -work day of which there shall be two <br />(2) per week, if work on,any regularly scheduled non -work day is worked at <br />management's direction. <br />6.3 Computation of Forty (40) Hour Workweek. In computing the forty (40) hour <br />workweek, the following type of work hours shall be included in the computation: <br />actual work time, jury/witness leave and bereavement leave. Any combination of <br />these work hours in excess of forty (40) hours per week shall entitle the employee <br />to overtime compensation. <br />However, paid time off for vacation leave, sick leave, holiday leave, compensatory <br />time off, Union President's Leave,and Union Business Leave shall not be credited <br />towards the forty (40) hour workweek, unless the employee is required to work <br />by management. <br />6.4 Compensation for Overtime. <br />A. The preferable method by which overtime shall be compensated is 'by <br />monetary payment, at one and one-half (IV2) times the employee's regular rate <br />of pay, subject to the provisions of Subsection "C" below. <br />17 <br />
