Working Class <br />• Hard-working; trying their best to get ahead <br />• Long-term residents are connected to this neighborhood <br />2. Determined <br />• Want to learn English and get better jobs <br />• Want kids to be able to go to college <br />3. Misinformed <br />• Limited access to resources and trainings they are interested <br />in (like ESL, workforce programs) <br />• Want to better understand the school system <br />4. Interested in Mental Health Services and Access to Basic Needs <br />EXHIBIT 3 <br />Wakeham/Grant Breakdown <br />of Race <br />- Latino/Hispanic - Asian - White = Other <br />Average Age at Wakeham/Grant: <br />30 years old <br />"1 know people drive through our <br />neighborhood and assume we are poor <br />or do not have an education. But some <br />of us come to this country with a <br />wealth of experiences. Some of us <br />attended the university in our home <br />country. <br />We are simply having a difficult time in <br />the U.S. But it takes time. We have the <br />will to excel and programs like <br />Jamboree are helping us." <br />"Man, some people just need time to breathe... Parents are tired. People work endless hours to <br />make ends meet. We come home and hear all the yelling. I feel for them. I know there isn't much I <br />can do, but if Jamboree can help them with parenting classes, or something like that — we need <br />that — kids need that support.
