The Spanish Colonial <br />Revival flourished between 1915 and 1940, reaching its apex during the 1920s and 1930s. Preceded by the Mission Revival <br />style, movement received widespread attention after the Panama -California Exposition in San Diego in 1915, where lavish <br />interpretations of Spanish prototypes were showcased. The most common features of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture <br />are low-pitched or flat roofs, usually with little or no overhangs clad in red tiles, asymmetrical facades, and stucco exterior <br />walls. Character -defining features of the style also include arches, towers, elaborated chimney tops, balconies and patios, <br />window grilles, wood, wrought iron, tile, or stone decorative elements. <br />SUMMARYICONCLUSION: <br />The Dixon -Morris house qualifies for listing in the Santa Ana Register of Historical Properties under Criterion 1 for its <br />exemplification of the distinguishing characteristics of the Spanish Colonial Revival style.
