RESOLUTION NO. 2019 -XXX <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA MAKING AN <br />APPOINTMENT TO FILL A VACANCY IN THE CITY COUNCIL OFFICE WARD 4 <br />PURSUANT TO SANTA ANA CITY CHARTER SECTION 403 <br />WHEREAS, Roman Reyna, Councilmember Ward 4, submitted his resignation <br />from the Santa Ana City Council, effective March 1, 2019; <br />WHEREAS, on March 5, 2019, the City Council declared a vacancy in the Ward <br />4 seat; <br />WHEREAS, on March 5, 2019, the City Council an approved a vacancy <br />application process requiring qualified persons to submit a "Application for Appointment, <br />Ward 4, City Council Office" to the Clerk of the Council no later than 12 Noon, on March <br />12, 2019; <br />WHEREAS, the Clerk of the Council has publicly noticed the availability of <br />application information via local news outlets and the City's internet and social media <br />platforms; <br />WHEREAS, the City Council is mandated to appoint a qualified person to fill the <br />Ward 4 vacancy pursuant to Charter Section 403, which provides in pertinent part: <br />In the event of a vacancy in the City Council, for whatever cause, the City <br />Council shall declare the office vacant and fill the same by appointment. In each <br />case the person so appointed shall hold office until the next general municipal <br />election and until his successor is elected and qualified for the remainder of an <br />unexpired term. Such appointee must, at the time of his appointment and <br />continuously for one (1) year prior thereto, have been and be a resident of the <br />ward from which his predecessor was elected. If the City Council shall fail to fill <br />a vacancy by appointment within thirty (30) days after such an office shall have <br />become vacant, it shall forthwith cause an election to be held to fill such <br />vacancy. <br />WHEREAS, on March 19, 2019, the City Council held Interviews of persons <br />seeking appointment to the Ward 4 Vacancy; <br />WHEREAS, on March 19, 2019, the City Council selected a qualified applicant to <br />serve until the next General Municipal Election and until his or her successor is <br />elected and qualified; <br />No, 2019 -XXX <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />EXHIBIT 2 <br />65C-57 <br />
