Lopez, Kenia
From:
Ernie Gallardo <
Sent:
Tuesday, April 16, 2019 5:21 PM
To:
eComment
Cc:
Sarah Sibia; Kyle Desmet
Subject:
600 Bed Homeless Shelter/ 2229 S. Yale Street
Follow Up Flag: Follow up
Flag Status: Flagged
Supervisor Do:
I represent the owners of a property located at South Coast Business Center, one block
south from the proposed 600 bed homeless shelter on S. Yale. I'm writing to express the ownership's, Grove Invest
Company, strong disapproval of the County and City's decision to locate the shelter at the proposed location in the light of
the surrounding neighborhood opposition.
Much has been made of the lack of notice leading up to the recent announcement that the shelter was being planned for
the specific site at 2229 S. Yale and that funds had been secured. All of this done after the property owners had voiced
opposition to another site about six months ago located a few blocks away off Susan Street that fell through because the
owner refused to sell it to be used as a shelter. His concern was the negative impact it would have on the surrounding
neighborhood, which is a strong, health commercial light industrial area that is vital to the city.
We have invested over two million dollars in our property in the last two years in upgrading the exterior improvements and
security. It is adjacent to the Union Pacific rail right of way which fronts Warner Ave. and is a constant problem that we
deal with every day. The Santa Ana police cannot help because of jurisdictional issues and Union Pacific does the best
they can. The last thing the area needs is 600 homeless individuals roaming the streets at all hours of the day and night
looking for things to get into too. It is way too much for one area.
There are no other services for them here so they will just have to go walking through the area in and out every day. It will
be a parade of the homeless, the worse human trafficking plan a city could possibly devise. It will not be winning any
awards for the city.
We would like you to consider another more appropriate area in the city for this shelter, thank you.
Ernie Gallardo
Meadows Asset Management, LLC

3
