REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />JUNE 4, 2019 <br />TITLE: <br />ADOPT A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE <br />2019 NATIONAL FITNESS CAMPAIGN <br />GRANT OF $30,000 PER SITE AND <br />AGREEING TO ENDEAVOR TO PROVIDE <br />$90,000 PER SITE TO FUND THE <br />REMAINING PURCHASE PRICE OF THE <br />EQUIPMENT PLUS THE COST OF <br />INSTALLATION AT FIVE CITY SITES <br />(JEROME PARK, EL SALVADOR PARK, <br />DELHI PARK, ROSITA PARK AND CIVIC <br />CENTER PLAZA OF THE FLAGS) <br />(STRATEGIC PLAN NO. 5,4) <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 1° Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Adopt a resolution accepting the 2019 National Fitness Campaign grant of $30,000 per sight and <br />agreeing to endeavor to provide $90,000 per site to fund the remaining purchase price of the <br />equipment plus the cost of installation at five City sites (Jerome Park, El Salvador Park, Delhi <br />Park, Rosita Park and Civic Center Plaza of the Flags). <br />DISCUSSION <br />On February 4, 2019, the City of Santa Ana submitted a grant application (Exhibit 1) to the <br />National Fitness Campaign (NFC) to build five fitness courts at Jerome Park, El Salvador Park, <br />Delhi Park, Rosita Park and Civic Center Plaza of the Flags. <br />On March 15, 2019, the City of Santa Ana received five $30,000 grants from NFC to participate <br />as a Model City in the 2019 National Fitness Campaign (Exhibit 2). Approval of the multi -site <br />application was based on the City of Santa Ana's commitment to free health and fitness options, <br />development of stakeholder consensus, and the exceptional and active public spaces where we <br />will launch our Fitness Courts and the NFC program. <br />Total funding required per Fitness Court® (includes mobile app, sports floor, communications and <br />press releases, activation campaign etc.) is $120,000 plus installation. Installation costs may be <br />different from site to site, as location conditions vary as well as the ability to use in-house staff for <br />some of the installation when possible.
