i <br />Page 4 <br />As indicated above, the amount of formaldehyde released from building materials is reduced <br />exponentially over time. The Offermann memo nonetheless incorrectly assumes that the same <br />concentration of formaldehyde will be present year after year over a 30-year period. In reality, indoor <br />air concentrations of formaldehyde are likely due to various sources, and the formaldehyde that <br />originates from the building material will decrease with time. Thus, the statement in the comment <br />letter that the project would be exposed to a "...cancer risk from formaldehyde of between 125 and <br />180 per million" and workers would be exposed to "...a cancer risk of 18.4 per million..." is based on <br />false assumptions. Given the federal and state regulations limiting formaldehyde emissions from <br />building materials, neither residents nor workers on the Project site will be exposed to dangerous <br />level of formaldehyde emissions. <br />765 The City Drive, Suite 200, Orange, CA 92868 714 939 1030 <br />
