I work diligently to
better the lives of those I come in contact with through my work as a teacher and volunteer as a catechist. In
addition, I have worked hard to better myself as I have recently earned my M. Ed. in Curriculum and
Instruction. Also, I have the privilege to work and live in Santa Ana as I own a home on Harvard St. near the
potential Haphan project which causes me and my neighbors great concern.
The area where this project will be built, will impact the community where I live and work greatly in an
adverse way. The traffic in this area (Edinger/Fairview) is highly impacted during peak hours since there are
many schools close by including Godinez HS, Valley HS, Diamond Elementary, Carr Intermediate, Mitchell
Elementary, Sunflower Preschool and others. There is so much traffic as it is now, and having this new
complex that will attract even more congestion to the area is unthinkable to me.
My greatest concern is the safety of the residents in the area. With so much traffic, emergency services would
be significantly delayed not only to residents but to the schools as well. I understand that there was an
analysis of this issue, yet I disagree and would like the council to consider the evaluation of a third party.
I honestly do not want to move out of my home because of this. I have tolerated a plethora of difficulties in
the city and now with this 18 new home Haphan project and the homeless shelter on Yale in the works, it will
definitely drive me out and other working class citizens like me away from SA. I love the improvement of
downtown SA and agree with the cities betterment plans, yet considering the above is extremely significant to
me. It is my hope that the council would like to retain residents that work hard to better their communities.
Respectfully Concerned,
Marisol Cardenas
