MainPlace Mall Transformation Project 12126.001
relatively flat and no landslides are mapped or known to exist at the project site
or vicinity. Therefore, seismically -induced landslides is not considered a hazard
for the site.
Design Consideration: Seismically -induced landslide is not a design
consideration for the project.
3.7 Flooding
According to the City of Santa Ana's General Plan, Public Safety Element (City of
Santa Ana, 1982), the project site is located within an area with a 500 year flood
risk. This is based on the long history of the Santa Ana River overflowing its
banks and flooding the surrounding areas. To reduce this risk, the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers (Corps) is implementing the Santa Ana River Mainstem
Project, which includes raising the height of Prado Dam and constructing new
gate -works to control water releases and other channel improvements.
However, as shown on Figure 6, Flood Hazard Zone Map, the site is not located
within an area considered to have a 1 % annual chance of flood (100-year flood)
or a 0.2% annual chance of flood (500-year flood). In addition, based on review
of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Flood Insurance Rate
Map (FIRM) for the project site and immediately surrounding area is located
within a zone designated as Zone X, or an area with reduced flood risk due to
levee (FEMA, 2009). Based on this information, the potential for flooding at the
site is considered low.
Design Consideration: Regional flooding is not a design consideration for
the project.
3.8 Seiches and Tsunamis
Seiches are large waves generated in very large enclosed bodies of water or
partially enclosed arms of the sea in response to ground shaking. Tsunamis are
waves generated in large bodies of water by fault displacement or major ground
movement. Based on the inland location of the project site and the lack of large
enclosed water bodies nearby, seiche and tsunami risks are not considered as
seismic hazards for the site.
Design Consideration: Seiches and tsunamis is not a design consideration
for the project.
'♦
10 /
Leighton
