MainPlace Mall Transformation Project 12126.001
All fill soils should be placed in loose lifts not exceeding 8 inches,
moisture -conditioned to at least 2 to 4 percentage points above optimum
moisture content, and compacted to a minimum of 90 percent of the
maximum dry density as determined by ASTM Test Method D 1557. The
optimum lift thickness to produce a uniformly compacted fill will depend on
the type and size of compaction equipment used. Aggregate base for
pavement should be compacted to a minimum of 95 percent relative
compaction.
4.2.2 Trench Backfill
Utility trenches should be backfilled with compacted fill in accordance with
Sections 306-1.2 and 306-1.3 of the Standard Specifications for Public
Works Construction, ("Greenbook"), 2015 Edition. Utility trenches can be
backfilled with onsite sandy material free of rubble, debris, organic and
oversized material up to 3 inches in largest dimension. Prior to backfilling
trenches, pipes should be bedded in and covered with either:
(1) Granular Bedding Materials: One -inch open -graded aggregate or a
uniform, sand material that has a Sand Equivalent (SE) greater -than -
or -equal -to 30, passing the No. 4 U.S. Standard Sieve (or as specified
by the pipe manufacturer), water densified in place, or
(2) CLSM: Controlled Low Strength Material (CLSM) conforming to
Section 201-6 of the Standard Specifications for Public Works
Construction, ("Green book"), 2015 Edition.
Pipe bedding should extend at least 4 inches below the pipeline invert and
at least 12 inches over the top of the pipeline. Native and clean fill soils
can be used as backfill over the pipe bedding zone, and should be placed
in thin lifts, moisture conditioned above optimum, and mechanically
compacted to at least 90 percent relative compaction, relative to the
ASTM D 1557 laboratory maximum density. The relative compaction for
the last 12 inches of the trench backfill should be 95 percent.
4.2.3 Foundation Design Recommendations
No structural loading information is available at this time. The following
parameters may be used for evaluating foundation alternatives for new
buildings:
'♦
13 /
Leighton
