MainPlace Mall Transformation Project 12126.001
The mat foundation was assumed to be 450 feet long and 125 wide
supported on engineered fill derived from on -site granular soils. The
recommended design parameters for mat foundation presented above
was based on a total settlement of approximately 2 inches at the center of
the mat and 1 inch at the edge of the mat under a uniform pressure of
1,500 psf. The potential impact of seismically -induced settlement should
also be considered in evaluation of foundation system alternatives (See
Section 3.4). The subgrade modulus can be refined when the foundation
plan and structural loading information become available.
Pile Foundation (40 feet below pile cap)
24-inch Drilled Piles 1 225 kips
14-inch Driven Concrete Piles 1175 kips
Pile settlement is not expected to exceed 1 inch total and Y2 inch differential
over a distance of 40 feet. The potential impact of seismically -induced
settlement should also be considered in evaluation of foundation system
alternatives (See Section 3.4). No capacity reduction is required if the piles
are spaced at least 2.5 times on center.
4.2.4 Earth Retaining Structures
The following parameters may be used to calculate lateral pressure for
earth retaining structures supporting non -expansive backfill:
Condition..
-
Active (Ka) 0.31
0.46
At -Rest (Ko)
0.47
0.68
Seismic Increment
0.22
0.37
(unrestrained)
Seismic Increment
0.36
0.52
(Restrained)
Level Passive (Kp)
3.26
Coefficient of Friction
0.35
15
Leighton
