Eligible participants would complete a five/six-week course, that would meet weekly
in a classroom setting to increase the knowledge, skills, and resources that would teach such skills and provide
tools to apply to budgeting, applying for a home or auto loan, dealing with debt and debt collectors, increasing
credit scores, job searching tips, identity theft prevention, and much more. CAP OC would target low-income
families, especially those with young children, living in underserved communities, who are at high -risk for
homelessness; nearly 99% of all current CAP OC clients are low-income, as defined by Federal Poverty Level
guidelines.
In 2018, thanks to funding through the Office of Child Abuse Prevention, which linked financial instability with child
abuse, the organization launched its Financial Empowerment program as a pilot, which included a variety of
workshops such as Financial Empowerment Education for Adults and Youth, covering banking, development of
spending plans, understanding and establishing credit, and learning hands-on tools for money management. An
additional program, Workforce Readiness for Adults and Youth, focuses on skills necessary to obtain a job,
including time management, resume building, interview skills, and effective job searching. The program provides
practical strategies and easy to understand ways to save for emergencies and obtain personal financial goals
through a five -week curriculum.
The City of Santa Ana CDBG funding will enable us to hire additional staff to provide the course at Southwest
Community Center, as well as other locations throughout the city. It is our belief, that
through weekly and monthly workshops at participating community centers and Wellness Centers CAP OC will be
able to strengthen and empower low-income individuals and families to reach financial goals and improve stability.
EXHIBIT A
