Brown <br />Act, Government Code Section 54950, et seq. <br />Enclosed is your 2017 Brown Act publication reflecting the changes <br />enacted in 2016. Unless otherwise noted, these amendments take effect January 1, <br />2017. The significant amendments to the Act are: <br />SB 1436 (ch 175 stats 2016) — Local Agency Meetings: Local Agency <br />Executive Compensation: Oral Report of Final Action Recommendations The Act <br />requires that all meetings of a legislative body of a local agency be open and public, <br />except that closed sessions may be held under prescribed circumstances. SB 1436 <br />amended Section 54953 to provide that prior to taking final action on an executive's <br />compensation, the legislative body orally must report a summary of a recommendation <br />for final action on the salary, salary schedule, or compensation paid in the form of fringe <br />benefits of the executive during the open meeting in which the final action is to be taken. <br />AB 2257 (ch 265 stats 2016) — Local Agency Meetings Agenda Online <br />Posting: Among other things, the Act requires the legislative body of an agency to have <br />its agendas and agenda materials readily available to the public, including having the <br />agenda or notice posted on its internet website, if the agency has one.
