7.3 Reimbursement (updated effective July 1, 2019). <br />A. Reimbursement will be based on the cost of tuition or registration fees and all <br />required texts and related material for each course. Additional expenses such as <br />meals and parking fees are not reimbursable. If, however, an employee is required by <br />the Police Chief to attend a particular course or seminar, the expense shall be home <br />entirely by the Department. <br />B. Costs for required textbooks are eligible for one hundred percent (100%) <br />reimbursement subject to the following conditions: <br />That a duplicate of the required textbook(s) was unavailable for loan from the <br />Department library prior to the commencement of cwursework; and <br />2. That any textbook(s) purchased by the City shall be submitted to the employee's <br />Departmental library in order that such textbook(s) maybe made available to all <br />employees. <br />C. Tuition and registration costs are eligible for one hundred percent (100%) <br />reimbursemeatup to a maximum total of two thousand dollars ($2,000) per fiscalyear <br />(including non-P.O.S.T. reimbursable courses and approved non -collegiate seminar <br />training courses). <br />Reimbursement for non -collegiate seminar training courses require the prior approval <br />of the Police Chief and shall be limited to two (2) such courses per year and a <br />maximum of $500 per course. <br />7.4 Procedures. <br />A. An employee who desires to seek tuition reimbursement under the provisions of this <br />Article must complete, in duplicate, an Application for Training and Educational <br />Assistance form and submit it to the Police Chief. <br />B. The Police Chief will recommend approval or disapproval and forward the <br />application to the Human Resources Department. <br />C. The Executive Director of Human Resources will approve or disapprove the <br />application for the City. One (1) copy will be returned to the employee and the <br />duplicate will be retained by the Human Resources Department. It is advisable that <br />the applicant accomplish the procedure so far described prior to the inception of the <br />course or disbursement of personal funds in order to ascertain the eligibility of the <br />intended course of instruction for reimbursement under the provisions of this policy. <br />18 <br />55A-28 <br />
