REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />AUGUST 20, 2019 <br />TITLE: <br />ADOPT A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A <br />DONATION OF POLICE K-9 ANIMALS, <br />EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES FROM <br />JOHANNA SCILLIERI FOR THE SANTA <br />ANA POLICE DEPARTMENT K-9 <br />PROGRAM <br />(STRATEGIC PLAN GOAL NO. 1, C) <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 1s' Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Adopt a resolution accepting the donation of Police K-9 animals, equipment and supplies from <br />Johanna Scillieri for the Santa Ana Police Department's K-9 Program. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Santa Ana Police Department's K-9 Program provides a valuable less lethal resource to <br />enhance officer safety and reduce liability exposure. From time to time, community members <br />contribute funding and supplies to enhance the program. Recently, Police Volunteer Johanna <br />Scillieri has donated K-9 "Kaylee", K-9 training obstacles, and K-9 trading cards to the Santa Ana <br />Police Department's K-9 Program. Ms. Scillieri's most recent donation K-9 "Mojo" will replace the <br />soon to be retired K-9 "Puskas", allowing the Police Department to maintain the number of Police <br />K-9's at six, not counting the Bloodhound.
