MainPlace Mall Transformation Project <br /> <br />Public Meeting, May 31, 2018 <br /> <br />Meeting Minutes <br /> <br />A public meeting in an open house format on the MainPlace Mall Transformation Project was <br />held on May 31, 2018 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at 2800 N Main Street in the former Nordstrom <br />department store on the second floor. <br /> <br />Approximately 100 members of the public attended. Attendees were invited to sign in and <br />provide a name, address and email address. They were also offered refreshment which <br />included water and cookies. <br /> <br />The meeting was organized into stations, each with information on the project (meeting guide <br />with layout attached). Following a presentation at the first station by Centennial Real Estate <br />CEO Steven Levin/question and answer session, members of the public were invited to circulate <br />to each station and to provide comments. <br /> <br />CEO Steven Levin’s presentation included the following: <br /> <br />• Mr. Levin introduced himself and gave thank yous to members of the public attending. <br />• Mr. Levin provided background on Centennial Real Estate. He stated the company owns <br />and operates malls and is a long-term owner, along with the partner on this project: <br />USAA. He stated the company’s focus is on creating destination projects and being <br />involved in the company. He stated he views malls as the fabric of the community. <br />• He stated the company believes in social responsibility and protecting the environment. <br />• He stated Centennial purchased the mall from Westfield several years ago. He stated <br />the company has spent two years planning for the transformation of MainPlace. He <br />stated the company also acquired the development rights so the company could <br />propose the project being discussed tonight. <br />• Mr. Levin offered background on the project including the vision to create a place for <br />the community of Santa Ana. He stated that when malls were built in the past, it served <br />as the entertainment for the community, but the focus was only on retail. The plan for <br />MainPlace is to create today’s version of a community destination with food, <br />experiences, outdoor spaces, restaurants, movies, music venues, kids’ entertainment, <br />and shopping. <br />• He stated the company doesn’t compete with Amazon, which is where you go to buy a <br />book or a hammer, but MainPlace is where you go as a destination, for the city of Santa <br />Ana.
