or her Department Head. A "hardship request" shall be limited to an <br />employee's authorized hours of work. An accommodation shall be <br />considered only after the employee has exhausted all other personal options <br />to resolve the hardship. <br />If the employee is unable to resolve his or her problem, the employee may <br />request an accommodation from their Department Head by submitting a <br />hardship claim. The Department Head may authorize an accommodation <br />after reviewing the claim or assign a manager to investigate and <br />recommend a resolution of the hardship claim. The manager may <br />recommend one of the following: <br />A. Approve an appropriate flex schedule that does not disrupt the <br />department's ability to deliver its services or that does not create <br />disruption in the work unit; or <br />B. Disapprove the employee's proposed solution to resolve the hardship; <br />or <br />C. Reassign the employee to a 5/40 work schedule. <br />The Department Head may accept any one of the manager's <br />recommendations or advance his own to resolve the hardship. <br />D. Hardship Claims. The following process shall apply to CASA employees <br />on a 9/80 schedule with hardship concerns: <br />Employees shall be required to explore and exhaust all personal <br />options to resolve the hardship. The employee's efforts to resolve <br />his or her personal situation must be explained on the form. <br />2. An employee claiming an ongoing hardship due to the 9/80 <br />work schedule should submit a hardship claim form (Exhibit C of <br />this MOU) to the Department Head through his or her manager. <br />The Department Head may authorize an accommodation after <br />reviewing the claim or may assign a manager to investigate <br />and recommend a resolution. <br />3. If, according to the employee, the hardship claim was not <br />resolved through the Department Head's recommendation, the <br />employee may submit the claim form to the Human Resources <br />CONFIDENTIAL ASSOCIATION OF SANTA ANA (CASA) MOU: JANUARY 1, 2019 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2022 <br />Page 8 <br />#10865v2 <br />55E-16 <br />
