he or she furnishes the Executive Director of Human Resources satisfactory proof of <br />his or her order to report for duty. Upon return and upon showing of proof of actual <br />service pursuant to such orders, he or she will be reinstated as provided in Section 9- <br />143 of the Civil Service Rules and Regulations of the City of Santa Ana. <br />B. Temporary. Members of the reserve forces of the United States or the National <br />Guard, granted temporary leave when ordered to duty, in accordance with the <br />Military and Veterans Code, will be granted leave with pay not to exceed thirty (30) <br />working days in each calendar year after one (1) years' service with the City upon <br />presenting satisfactory proof of orders to and from such temporary active duties. <br />11.4 Jury and Witness Leave. When an on -duty employee is called to serve as a juror or witness <br />in any court action, he or she shall be allowed to leave for the time actually required for such <br />service without loss of pay. Each on -duty employee called for such service shall present to <br />the Police Chief for examination the subpoena calling him or her to such service and shall <br />pay into the City Treasury the fees collected for such service, with the exception of <br />reimbursement for transportation expenses, if any. <br />11.5 Examination Leave. Employees participating in examinations conducted during their normal <br />working hours for positions in the competitive service of the City of Santa Ana will be <br />granted leave with pay for the time actually required without loss of any accrued vacation <br />time off benefits. <br />11.6 Unauthorized Absence. Unauthorized absence from duty for any duration of time may be <br />considered cause for dismissal. <br />11.7 Authorized Absence Without Pay - Short Term. Absence without pay, not to exceed five (5) <br />consecutive working days, may be authorized by the Police Chief. Absence without pay, not <br />to exceed fifteen (15) calendar days, may be authorized by the Department with the approval <br />of the City Manager. Such an absence may be authorized only if, in the judgment of the <br />Police Chief, it serves the best interest of the City. <br />11.8 Authorized Absence Without Pay - Long Term. Upon receipt of awritten request from an <br />employee having permanent status plus action by the Police Chief recommending approval of <br />the request, the City Manager may grant a leave of absence without pay for up to six (6) <br />months. <br />An employee returning to duty with the City shall inform the Police Chief and the Executive <br />Director of Human Resources of his or her intention at least thirty (30) calendar days prior to <br />the expiration of the six (6) months period or a shorter period of the full six (6) months if not <br />taken. Upon receipt of such notice, the Police Chief will take steps necessary to restore the <br />employee to his or her former position. <br />31 <br />#11140v2 <br />55F-39 <br />
