CHAIR AND COMMISSIONERS <br />Reference No.: 4.21 <br />May 15-16, 2019 <br />Page 6 of 8 <br />programs to encourage behavior change resulting in more residents walking to local <br />destinations and walking for the positive health benefits. <br />• Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services (Engineering Division) — Broadway - <br />Manchester Active Transportation Equity Project will construct a separated, Class IV <br />cycle track, continental crosswalks, a center median pedestrian refuge island, <br />sidewalk improvements, curb extensions, upgraded access ramps, pedestrian <br />signals, and more. Each of these measures will work to slow speeding vehicles on <br />the corridor and increase pedestrian and bicyclist safety. The project benefits include <br />enhanced safety and mobility for active transportation users, a rise in trips taken by <br />pedestrians and bicyclists and an increase in public health outcomes for residents <br />due to an increase in active transportation activities. <br />Stanislaus Council of Governments <br />• Stanislaus County— Bret Harte Elementary Safe Crossing and Active Transportation <br />Connectivity Project will install new sidewalks, Class III bicycle routes, and bike <br />racks. Improvements created by this project to help support student safety to and <br />from Bret Harte Elementary School and Evelyn Hanshaw Middle School include high <br />visibility crosswalks adjacent to the school site, and various safety improvements and <br />enhancements which create an overall improved bicycle and pedestrian network <br />throughout the neighborhood. This project will result in a safer environment for <br />students and community members, increase access to various local destinations, <br />improve safety, and provide greater regional access. <br />Tahoe Metropolitan Planning Organization <br />• City of South Lake Tahoe — Lake Tahoe Boulevard Class I Bicycle Trail Project will <br />construct a lit Class I bike trail that will parallel Lake Tahoe Boulevard, allowing <br />commuters and recreational users to travel between the city and county areas without <br />ever leaving the safety of a Class I bike path. The benefits of this project include <br />closing a trail gap, completing a safe route to the South Tahoe High School, and <br />providing a connection to a transit center and various shopping areas. <br />Tulare County Association of Governments <br />• City of Woodlake — North Valencia Boulevard Safe Routes to School Extension, Gap <br />Improvements Project will extend previously built improvements and close a gap on <br />North Valencia. The improvements include curbs, gutters, sidewalks, ADA compliant <br />ramps, street lighting, crosswalks, and Class II bike lanes along North Valencia <br />Boulevard. This project benefits students and the community at large by providing <br />much needed infrastructure in a disadvantaged community, creating a safer active <br />transportation corridor, and increasing walking and biking.
