Appendix I, Patio Covers <br />Appendix J, Grading <br />SECTION 2: Section 8-93 of the Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby amended <br />and added such that it reads as follows: <br />Secs. 8-92. - Reserved. <br />Sec. 8-93. Permit expiration (Volume 1, Chapter 1, Division II, Section 105.5). <br />Chapter 1, Division II, Section 105.5 of the building code is amended to read as a <br />follows: <br />Sec. 105.5 Expiration. Every permit issued shall become invalid unless the <br />work on the site authorized by such permit is commenced within 12 <br />months after its issuance, or if the work authorized on the site by such <br />permit is suspended or abandoned for a period of 180 days after the time <br />the work is commenced. The building official is authorized to grant, in <br />writing, one or more extensions of time, for periods not more than 180 <br />days each. The extension shall be requested in writing and justifiable <br />cause demonstrated. <br />SECTION 3: Section 8-85 of the Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby added such <br />that it reads as follows: <br />Sec. 8-85. Seismic loads (California Existing Building Code, Chapter 5, <br />Section 506.4.3). <br />Chapter 5, Section 506.4.3 of the California Existing Building Code is amended <br />by adding the following paragraph thereto: <br />The conversion of any portion of an existing building to residential use <br />shall be analyzed for 75 percent of the Design Earthquake Ground motion, <br />as defined in Section 1613.2 of the California Building Code, but in no <br />event shall there be a reduction in the capacity of the seismic force <br />resisting system where such system provides a greater level of protection <br />than the minimum requirements established by this code. Performance - <br />based engineering analysis and design procedures may be used to <br />evaluate the existing structure and the design of strengthening elements <br />when approved by the Building Official. All new structural elements shall <br />meet current detailing requirements of Section 1604 of the California <br />Building Code. <br />SECTION 4: Section 8-290 of the Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby amended <br />such that it reads as follows: <br />Ordinance No. NS-2981 <br />Page 2 of 33 <br />
