REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />FEBRUARY 18, 2020 <br />TITLE: <br />DESIGNATE A VOTING DELEGATE FOR <br />THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA <br />ASSOCIATION OF GOVERNMENTS <br />REGIONAL CONFERENCE AND GENERAL <br />ASSEMBLY MEETING <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 11' Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2ntl Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />/s/Kristine Ridge FILE NUMBER <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />Designate a voting delegate for the 55th Southern California Association of Government's <br />(SCAG) Regional Conference and General Assembly scheduled for May 6-8, 2020. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Each year, the Santa Ana City Council and the County of Orange Board of Supervisors appoint <br />a Delegate and Alternate Representative to the Southern California Association of Governments <br />(SCAG) General Assembly, which is the nation's largest metropolitan planning organization <br />(MPO). It represents six counties, 191 cities, and more than 19 million residents. SCAG <br />undertakes a variety of planning and policy initiatives. The Regional Conference and Assembly <br />will include a diverse program of expert panels, keynote presentations and technical <br />demonstrations that will share insights on how local governments and civic partners can <br />collaborate to make the most of new technologies to enhance mobility, economic opportunity <br />and quality of life. <br />Councilmember Phil Bacerra expressed an interest in serving as a voting delegate for SCAG. <br />The voting delegate or alternate will consider all proposed Resolutions and/or Bylaw revisions <br />on behalf of the City of Santa Ana. <br />The City delegate will receive a complimentary two -night hotel accommodation at the JW <br />Marriot Resort & Spa for Wednesday, May 6 and Thursday, May 7, 2020. An invitation was <br />sent to the entire City Council as the conference registration is free for all elected officials and <br />city managers in the region. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT <br />Approval of this item supports the City's efforts to meet Goal #5 - Community Health, Livability, <br />Engagement & Sustainability, Objective #1 (establish a comprehensive community engagement <br />65C-1 <br />
