Salas, Diana
From:
Sent:
To:
Subject:
Attachments:
March 17, 2020
Re: Protecting Tenants Act
Ruben Barreto (SABHC) <ruben.barreto@sa-bhc.org>
Tuesday, March 17, 2020 7:33 PM
eComment
Re: Protecting Tenants Act
SABHC_Letter of Support Tenant Protection Act.docx
Dear Mayor Pulido and Santa Ana City Councilmembers,
As you know, the Santa Ana Building Healthy Communities Initiative has brought together residents and
organizations of this City over the last 10 years, to create lasting improvements in the conditions of health and
well-being of Santa Ana's most underserved communities. Together with your leadership, we have made many
strides in keeping families together, protecting immigrants, improving housing conditions and availability, and
investing in youth.
Today, we write to express our support for the Protecting Tenants Act, urging you to implement an immediate
moratorium on evictions, rent increases, utility shut offs ad late fees. Those most affected in these times are the
uninsured, people over 60 years old, or with a compromised immune system, those who work 2-3 jobs to
survive and are at risk of losing their jobs or income, and all of the undocumented residents of our City. In these
moments we urgently need to support each other in community so that we can come out of this global
emergency.
This is why we ask you to take action and protect the most vulnerable amongst us. The Protecting Tenants Act
will additionally establish a rental assistance fund, end parking enforcement and street sweeping, end the
sweeps on homeless encampments and the confiscation of their belongings, and end debt collection activities.
Now more than ever, we need you to protect the right to remain of every Santa Ana resident, and ensure the
well-being of children and families of Santa Ana.
Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions, at ruben.barretonsa-bhc.org.
Sincerely,
Ruben Barreto
Director of Communications
Santa Ana Building Healthy Communities
Ruben A Barreto
Communications Director
Santa Ana Building Healthy Communities
