Orozco, Norma
From: Rosa Urquiza <rosa.urquiza.3.16@gmail.com>
Sent: Tuesday, March 17, 2020 2:23 PM
To: eComment
Subject: Urge for Eviction Moratorium
Dear City Council,
As resident and former SAUSD student, I urge you to enact an immediate eviction moratorium during the
pandemic we are facing. My parents employment is currently on the line as they work in the service industry
and business has gone down. Their employers have already begun to fire their coworkers instead of giving them
paid leave. Thus, I fear my parents might loose their source of income and the negative effects that will have on
my family. More than 50% of the income my parents receive goes to paying rent. They have to use the
remaining amount of their money to also cover food, electricity, gas, internet, and medical expenses. Not only
do my siblings and I depend on my parents but so do other members of my family. Thus, enacting a moratorium
would help alleviate the stress that my parents are currently facing and protect them from being evicted if they
loose their employment. This will also protect other community members who like my family face similar
situations.
Please, I urge you to think about the safety of our community as you act during this public health crisis. With or
without a pandemic our community faces structural vulnerabilities. It is only just, moral, and humane to enact
an immediate moratorium on evictions to not exacerbate the structural vulnerabilities our communities already
face.
Sincerely,
Rosa Urquiza
