Orozco, Norma
From:
Miriam Ochoa <miriam285.mo@gmail.com>
Sent:
Tuesday, March 17, 2020 3:54 PM
To:
eComment
Subject:
Constituent Concern
Good afternoon,
My name is Miriam Ochoa, my family and I are and have been residents of Santa Ana for over 20 years. Today
we'd like to know if the city plans on addressing their undocumented/immigrant community.
As you all well know, the city of Santa Ana has a large population of mixed status/immigrant families, mine
included.
We are well aware of the economic toll this COVID-19 outbreak will have to all families, regardless of their
legal standing. However, I think it is of the outmost importance that the city's elected representatives consider
the enormous amount of concern it's marginalized communities are facing in times like these. Most of these
families live paycheck to paycheck and CANNOT afford to go days, much less weeks without working. Theii
fears about legal status too, intimidates them from seeking help at local government offices or programs.
I'd like to ask you all, to seriously keep these communities in mind and come back with a proposition that will
safely include them in any future relief policy or break you all come up with. I'd also like the mayor to
personally release a statement to these communities and assure them that their fears and concerns are and will
be addressed. Thank you.
Best Regards,
Miriam Ochoa-Garibay
University of California Riverside
Political Science Candidate
Undergraduate 12020
