Santa Ana is the fourth densest city in the nation, if we don't work swiftly and responsibly to contain the COVID-19 outbreak locally this could be catastrophic to the more than 300,000 people who reside here. Many of those who live here, including my parents work in the service industry, meaning that if they don't show up for work they don't collect wages. I work at a local community college and I along with other part time staff was put on leave yesterday. If we can't go to work we can't pay our rent, without and emergency moratorium put in place you could lead many to homelessness. As city council you have the power to enact the following ordinance "Protecting Tenants Act in the City of Santa Ana in Response to COVID-19 Pandemic" which would protect the city's most vulnerable and by extension everyone. We as a society will only ever be as healthy as the sickest among us. If the only way we survive this epidemic is through social distancing and closing down shop, then we must ensure folks can stay housed, with running water and electricity if they are also being barred from work. This is your time to set yourself apart as leaders of this community. The lives of your constituents are literally in your hands because people will either live or die depending on the decisions that are made here tonight. We urge you to make the right choice and pass the "Protecting Tenants Act in the City of Santa Ana in Response to COVID-19 Pandemic" ordinance. Thank you, Mextli Lopez
