These improvements will <br />help to maintain and enhance neighborhoods and quality of life in Orange County's <br />capital city. Santa Ana can set the standard for the rest of the county; you have the <br />largest and best collection of beautiful historic buildings and a rich cultural history as <br />well. <br />Adopting the ordinance to require Historic Resources Commission (HRC) review of <br />building permits on buildings over 50 years of age (as the City of Whittier does) is a <br />worthwhile layer of protection. <br />Adjusting your fees for Historical Register listing and Mills Act is the right thing to do to <br />make your program more inclusive. Santa Ana's fees in this regard have been among <br />the highest in the entire United States. <br />Placing an HRC member on the Planning Commission is another way to ensure that <br />adequate protections and review are made on projects in a timely manner.
