CONSIDER THE FISCAL YEAR 2020-21 DRAFT BUDGET AND THE SEVEN-YEAR
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
Please read this at the council meeting, during public speaking.
Thank You
I am writing to you regarding the proposed budget. I noticed that there is a $13.5
million increase proposed to public safety, which will most likely be going to Police
raises. I don't understand why they are getting another increase, since they just
received a $25 million raise last year. This is unacceptable.
One of the things I noticed is there is nothing in the budget for programs for Seniors.
SA has a large senior population, yet centers are in sad condition, not many programs
being offered and transportation is limited.
The Governor signed an executive order to create a Master Plan on Aging. Recognizing
that California's over-65 population is projected to grow to 8.6 million by 2030
Orange County is working on its own Strategic Plan for Aging (OCSPA). (Over 450,000
older adults (aged 65 and older) account for 14.3% of Orange County's population. By
2045, this number is projected to increase to 17.3%. As more adults reach retirement,
they will face a new set of economic, social, health, and lifestyle challenges associated
with aging. Currently, Orange County is not in a position to provide adequate support
and care to meet the needs and challenges of this inevitably growing aging population.)
http://www.officeonaging.ocqov.com/resources/reports
http://www.ocagingplan.org/
SA is a member of the OCSPA, yet I have not heard anything reported about it from
your representative. Do you even know who that is? Have you heard anything? Has
anything been reported to the City Council?
In 2018 I was appointedby Supervisor Do, to serve on the Senior Citizens Advisory Council, to
represent District 1..Every month we visit other cities Senior Centers for our general
meetings. Yet we can't host it in SA, due to the lack of space in the our centers.
I am asking that you please set aside some funds to improve the condition of the Senior
Centers. Streamline the process for organizations wanting to hold classes for our
seniors. And to create a Senior Advisory Council/Committee that can do more than just
plan events.
t
