Orozco, Norma
From:
Sent:
To:
Cc:
Subject:
I am in favor of this item.
Nathaniel Greensides <mynci90@gmail.corn>
Tuesday, June 16, 2020 3:44 PM
eComment
Solorio, Jose; Villegas, Juan; Mendoza, Nelida
Public Comment 85B June 16 2020
Almost one hundred years ago, the Tulsa Race massacre occurred. It was known as the "Black Wall Street" of
its time. I didn't learn about this in my public school education. What I learned about that period of time
regarded only WWI which is important yes, and how then America's white population experienced the Roaring
Twenties.
A little over three quarters of a century ago, a group of white military men decided to target mostly Mexicans in
Los Angeles for their clothing and race. I did not learn about this in my public school education. What I learned
about that period of time regarded only WWII which too is important yes, and how then America's white
population experienced a post war boom which created Santa Ana as we know it today.
Santa Ana has its own history since its post -WWII boom (as well as before then too). Yet, far too many youth
do not get to know about the non -white male lens of knowledge in all subjects, not just history. I pray that what
will be learned about our time will be important too, and how we all will experience a fruitful society together
in the future.
I am glad that the Santa Ana School Board voted in favor of making Ethnic Studies a requirement for
graduating high school. It will bode well not just for our non -white youth, but our white community members
and youth as well.
I urge the council to provide as much support in ensuring that this comes to fruition in a positive and beneficial
manner for all.
Sincerely,
Nathaniel Greensides
Ward 5
