Approve an appropriation adjustment accepting $22,950 in the Police Special Revenue - <br />General account (no. 02414002-57000) and appropriate same in the Police Special <br />Revenue - General account (no. 02414400-various). <br />2. Authorize the City Manager and to execute an agreement (BSCC-0180-18-MH) with the <br />State of California Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC), for the period of <br />May 1, 2019 through September 30, 2021, in an amount not to exceed $22,950, subject to <br />non -substantive changes approved by the City Manager and City Attorney. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The State of California Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) awarded grant funding <br />to the Santa Ana Police Department for a statewide mental training initiative (Exhibit 1). The funding <br />is distributed on a per capita basis to probation departments, sheriff's offices, and police <br />departments for mental health -related training delivered to correctional staff from May 1, 2019 <br />through September 30, 2021. With this training, the correctional staff at the City of Santa Ana Jail <br />will better assist individuals suffering from a mental health crisis by using a safe and positive <br />approach. At the conclusion of this training, Correctional staff will better understand mental health, <br />mental illness, and substance abuse disorders so they can assess risks and apply the safest <br />strategies for taking care of the individuals in custody and themselves. <br />"GET SAFE" will conduct on -site training and will maintain all social distancing guidelines currently <br />in place. "GET SAFE" is certified by California's Commission on Peace Officer Standards and <br />Traning (POST) and Standard and Training for Corrections (STC). The "GET SAFE" curriculum is <br />geared to effectively de-escalate tense situations and positively interact with persons with <br />disabilities, mental illness, and substance abuse.
