Flores, Dora
From: Houston, Nicole
Sent: Monday, August 17, 2020 2:18 PM
To: eComment_Forwarding
Subject: FW: Affordable Housing Fee-Tom's Truck Center
From: slheidler@aol.com [mailto:slheidler@aol.com]
Sent: Saturday, August 15, 2020 5:06 PM
To: Pulido, Miguel <MPulido@santa-ana.org>
Cc: kcheidler@ttruck.com
Subject: Affordable Housing Fee-Tom's Truck Center
Dear Miguel,
This letter (e-mail) is concerning the upcoming City Council meeting that will address
the affordable housing fee issue for the Tom's Truck Center Project.
Tom's Truck Center and my family's history with you goes back a long way. My late
husband, George, so enjoyed being with you and took great pleasure in your success
and the positive changes in Santa Ana under your leadership. My son KC and I
continue to support and take pride in you and the city.
I am writing this to ask for your, and the Councils, support in reducing our Affordable
Housing Fee. I would really like a zero fee as we have complied with every different
zone change, environmental requirement and city request. As you know we wanted to
rebuild Tom's Truck Center on the property at end, grd, and 4th Street, but the city felt
the best use for the property would be to have housing there. We took several parcels
of property from heavy industrial use, one parcel had an automobile crushing operation
on it, to a clean environmentally safe building site. It has taken a great amount of our
time and resources to get the property to a point where it meets the standards needed
for housing. I feel that to impose the Affordable Housing fee on top of all the other cost
we have incurred is extreme.
I have recently learned that the Affordable Housing Fee to new builders is five dollars a
foot, but because our plans were approved last year it would cost us ten dollars a foot. I
really don't understand the reasoning for this.
Thank you for your time and for working so hard for Santa Ana. I really wish George
was here to work on this project with you, the two of you would have had a great
working together on this.
