CONSIDER OPTIONS TO RECOGNIZE SANTAANA RESIDENTS WHO HAVE <br />SERVED IN THE U.S. MILITARY AND PROVIDE DIRECTION TO STAFF — City <br />Manager's Office <br />MOTION: Accept informational report regarding options to recognize Santa Ana <br />residents who have served in the U.S. military and provide direction to staff. <br />Council discussion ensued and direction provided to staff. <br />Mayor Pro Tern Villegas provided direction to city staff to procure a plaque, <br />fountain or statue to be located in the Civic Center along with an electronic registry. <br />Councilmember Mendoza requests banners on Main Street recognizing Santa Ana <br />Residents who have lost their lives or are currently deployed. <br />City Manager Kristine Ridge shared request by majority of council to bring back <br />different concepts and ideas to recognize veterans that reside in our community. <br />Councilmember Solorio in support of many of the ideas, requests that staff include <br />input from the various veterans oriented non-profit organizations , and encourages <br />use of social media. <br />Councilmember Bacerra provided direction to staff regarding monuments, <br />banners, recognition during the Fourth of July celebration, and supports reaching <br />out to the non-profit organizations. <br />Mayor Pro Tern Villegas provided additional direction with majority of council <br />support to implement an electronic registry and have a memorial to honor our <br />fallen heroes. <br />DRAFT CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 1 O $ _8 JULY 21, 2020 <br />
