I am
personally aware of some of the issues that are associated with the Red Roof Inn. I see it every time I walk
from our neighborhood to Polly’s Pie or when we do a Santiago Creek cleanup. Red Roof Inn mattresses are
being used as shelters in the creek, and anyone that reads reviews of the Inn will know not to have their
relatives stay there. Drug transactions, SAPD service calls (369 since Jan. ‘19) and transient activity make it an
undesirable location to visit. This at the “Gateway To Santa Ana”. My hats off to Polly’s Pie. It’s a testament
to Polly’s quality and commitment to Santa Ana.

Longstanding violations need to be fixed. Red Roof Inn doesn’t care about the community, nor does it seem to
mind the bad press. For too long now the City has ignored these establishments.

Correcting long standing problems that are known to the community is a step in the right direction. Don’t let
the owners off with a promise to fix the issue. Make them accountable or legally seize the property.

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration. Stay safe, stay healthy.
Respectfully,
Dale A Helvig
Resident, Santa Ana
1
