Flores, Dora
From:Tim Johnson <tjohnson@jlkrllp.com>
Sent:Monday, October 05, 2020 5:20 PM
To:eComment
Cc:aalexander@redroof.com; bhall@redroof.com
Subject:Agenda 19D: Red Roof Inn
Santa Ana Council (cc Mr. Alexander and Mr. Hall with Red Roof Inn corporate)…I live not too far from the Red Roof Inn
on Main Street. As you likely know, this motel seems to be contributing to a substantial number of issues in the area
resulting in excess police resources being expended in the area. Additionally, it does not appear that the premises is
wholly up to code and livable standards. I urge you to proceed with nuisance abatement proceedings against the
owners in the hopes that they clean up their property and the issues surrounding it. I also urge you to clarify the use of
the property. It is my understanding that a fair share of the property may be used by state parolee housing after they
are released by the CA Dept of Corrections…I believe that it would be helpful to our community if this was clarified for us
all in order to reduce rumors. As always, I also urge you to continue to work with various groups in providing livable
housing solutions to those who are struggling and needing a place to stay and the mental health, physical health, job
training, life skills and addiction services that generally accompany such housing (i.e. permanent supportive
housing). Ultimately, I wish that the city did not need to go down this route and I have to presume that there have been
numerous attempts to mitigate these issues with the business owner. BTW, I would send this email to the owners of the
property, who I believe are local to Orange County, but unfortunately I cannot find an email address although they are
right across the street from the Red Roof Inn, so I imagine that they are aware of the situation.

Blessings to you all as you continue to improve our community.

Best,

Tim Johnson
1
