Exhibit A <br />�PALEOWEST <br />November 9, 2020 <br />Armando Fernandez <br />Senior Civil Engineer, PE <br />City of Santa Ana, Public Works <br />20 Civic Center Plaza <br />Ross Annex, M-20 <br />Santa Ana, CA 92702 <br />Transmitted via email to afernandez(cDsanta-ana.or <br />LES i} <br />RE: Cultural Resources Assistance for the Reburial of Human Remains for the City of Santa <br />Ana Public Works, City of Santa Ana, Orange County, California <br />Dear Mr. Fernandez, <br />PaleoWest LLC (PaleoWest) is pleased to submit herewith a scope of work and cost estimate to provide <br />cultural resources services to the City of Santa Ana, Public Works Department (City). PaleoWest <br />understands that human remains were recently unearthed during the replacement of a residential <br />sewer line in the city of Santa Ana, Orange County, California. PaleoWest further understands that the <br />Orange County Coroner has recovered the remains, which are currently being stored at the Coroner's <br />Office. The Most Likely Descendent (MLD) has requested a non-destructive osteological analysis of the <br />remains prior to their re -interment. The City has asked that PaleoWest prepare a scope and cost to <br />conduct the requested osteological study and to assist the City with the reburial process. <br />PaleoWest proposes to complete the following tasks to be conducted as part of the scope of work: <br />• Transfer of the Human Remains. PaleoWest will coordinate with the MLD and the Orange <br />County Coronerto arrange the release of the human remains. Once released to PaleoWest, the <br />remains will be transferred to our Monrovia office and placed in a secured area. It is anticipated <br />that the remains will be temporarily stored at PaleoWest's office until the reburial. At present, <br />the timing of the reburial has yet to be determined. <br />• Osteological Analysis. In accordance with the MLD's request, PaleoWest will completed an <br />osteological analysis of the remains. The analysis will include the identification of the parts of <br />the body present, the number of individuals, age of death, sex, statue, and any evidence of <br />disease or injury. No destructive analysis will be undertaken on the remains. The results of the <br />osteological inventory will be summarized in a memorandum of findings that will be prepared <br />for the City and the MLD. A copy of the memorandum will be submitted to the California <br />Historical Resources Information System (CHRIS), along with appropriate Department of Parks <br />and Recreation (DPR) 523 site forms. <br />• Reburial Coordination Assistance. PaleoWest will assist the City with the reburial process. <br />Towards this end, PaleoWest will attend up to six meetings with the City and the MLD to discuss <br />
