Was the organization Yes
in operation as of
March 1. 2020?
Will the organization
Yes
be operating in Santa
Ana for the
foreseeable future?
Organization mission
We are a cultural and natural history center dedicated to preserving,
and history:
promoting, and restoring the history of Orange County. We serve as
a safe space for our community and youth through educational
programming and inclusiveness. We normally see 18,000 school
children on field trips annually, and host free and open to the public
community events. We also work to share the importance of urban
farming through our new Gospel Swamp Farm programming.
Description of need:
Our revenue has been cut by about 95%since March 17th when we
were forced to stop operations. In order to stay relevant and needed
in our community, we have had to spend extra money that we do not
have on technology to create virtual programming. We would love to
have help paying for these cameras and digital expenses! Our
BIGGEST concern is security. Since the shut down, we have had
multiple thefts of hundreds of dollars worth of equipment. We need
security guards on the grounds 24/7 but currently can only afford to
pay for them to be here 6 hours a day. We need to install security
cameras, but cannot afford them. We have had vandalism that we
currently cannot afford to fix and tools stolen that we cannot afford
to replace. We have gone from a staff of 25 to a staff of 9, and likely
will go down more if we do not get assistance. We have also had
unique problems with animals on our grounds- we had to remove
200,000 bees from one of our historic structures (thousands of
dollars to remedy). Our coyotes on the grounds have chewed all of
our sprinklers and irrigation and we are at risk of losing our beloved
citrus grove. Neither of these issues would happen if we were under
"normal' circumstances with a property full of children and visitors.
Estimated loss of
Roughly $250,000 to $300,000
revenue due to the
COVID-19 pandemic:
Grant amount
$150,000
requested:
Upload Budget Analysis for planned use of funds:
Bud get_Analysis_C ity_of_Sa nta_Ana_10-27-2020.xlsx
