PROPOSAL STANDARD AVENUE PROTECTED BIKE LANES kAA <br />3RD TO WARNER <br />City of Santa Ana In 13 <br />Food Trucks Accommodation <br />Current food truck activity for food and grocery sales exists along Standard Avenue north of McFadden <br />Avenue. While the food trucks may not be formally permitted by the City, they are a part of the community <br />and inclusion in the design project may be prudent to continue serving the community needs. Based on <br />discussions with City staff, a loading zone design for the bikeway can be incorporated and grade changes, <br />striping, and signing features can be utilized to slow bicyclists at likely conflict zones. <br />Public Art <br />This project has the opportunity to gain ownership <br />from the community through incorporation of public <br />art. Throughout the project, our team will consider <br />opportunities to include public art such as additional <br />murals, mosaics, pavers, and other mediums to better <br />link directly with the cultural groups and community <br />members that live and work along Standard Avenue. <br />Public outreach will be utilized to identify opportunities <br />for public art and solicit stakeholders preferences. <br />While the project may not be able to fund new art, the <br />engagement can be utilized to pursue future funding <br />from public or private sources. Mark Thomas is well - <br />practiced as is the City at pursuing grants and we <br />can work with the City to identify sources that can <br />supplement the ATP funding. <br />Public Engagement <br />Santa Ana has led the path for public engagement to identify infrastructure projects throughout Orange <br />County and the State of California. Grant funding secured by the City is founded on strong outreach that <br />shows funding agencies the viability of projects and support from local stakeholders. Our team wants to <br />continue the dialogue with the community via two workshops led in Spanish with English translation (if <br />needed). Additionally, we propose two short -duration pop-up events hosted at Madison Park, the Roosevelt - <br />Walker Community Center, the Delhi Center, or other location that is respected as a welcoming and safe <br />place for local stakeholders. Public engagement can solicit input on the project, but also improve awareness <br />and education on how to use the new bikeways and protected intersection, or cross as a pedestrian. <br />Paul Martin, our proposed project manager, KTUA, and Arrellano Associates have all participated in <br />community engagement in the City, including KTUA and Paul's involvement in the CSACS Plan. Our team <br />also includes Spanish speakers. This experience will allow our team to quickly establish trust with the <br />community and community effectively with residents in their primary language. <br />Landscaping <br />The project includes curb extensions and new medians for the separated bikeway providing new <br />opportunities for enhanced landscaping. We recognize the addition of landscaping would increase <br />maintenance costs for the City, so we can explore low maintenance plant palettes that might be acceptable <br />to the City. Public art such as pavers and mosaic -type treatments might be utilized in lieu of new landscaping <br />where the City prefers not to incorporate new irrigation and landscaping maintenance needs. <br />Mark Thomas and KTUA have experience implementing low maintenance landscaping in the urban street <br />environment. These projects include the Mendez Historic Trail & Green Street Bikeway in Westminster, Long <br />Beach Boulevard Green Street in South Gate, and Amorlite Complete Street in San Marcos. <br />
