Basic -level functions are covered for students to create <br />typical documents used in medical practice. Students practice keyboarding to <br />gain accuracy and speed and learn medical terminology. <br />POFM1331: Medical Terminology & Communications <br />Credit Hours: 3.00 Clock Hours: 40/40/0 <br />Students practice appropriate written and verbal forms of professional <br />communication, such as letter forms, grammar, punctuation, and spelling. <br />Students practice keyboarding to gain accuracy and speed and gain <br />proficiency in medical terminology. Students are exposed to basic business <br />mathematic concepts used in the office environment. <br />POFM1332: Medical Insurance Coding I <br />Credit Hours: 3.00 Clock Hours: 80 (Theory 40, Lab 40) (Ground 40, Online <br />40) <br />This course provides a detailed approach to the accurate use of The <br />Physician's Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and for procedural coding <br />of insurance claims. Activities in the Healthcare Procedure Coding System <br />(HCPCS) are also addressed. <br />POFM1341: Medical Insurance Claims Processing <br />Credit Hours: 3.00 Clock Hours: 40/40/0 <br />This course provides the fundamental knowledge and skills required in <br />completing the Universal Health Insurance Claim Form for a variety of <br />insurance carriers. This course includes discussions and activities in the <br />processing of claims for commercial carriers, managed care plans, and <br />government programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, CHAMPUS/CHAMPVA, <br />Worker's Compensation, and Disability. <br />POFM1342: Medical Insurance Coding II <br />Credit Hours: 3.00 Clock Hours: 80 (Theory40, Lab 40) (Ground 40, Online <br />40 <br />This course provides a detailed approach to the accurate use of the <br />International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10-CM) used for diagnosis <br />coding.
