Prerequisites: PTAP2131, PTAP2230, PTAP2535 <br />PTAP2400: Neuromuscular Rehabilitation <br />Credit Hours: 4.00 Clock Hours: 60/0/0 <br />This course covers the role of the physical therapist assistant (PTA) in the <br />management of patients with common neurological dysfunctions. The <br />student will learn theoretical principles and how to integrate them in <br />treatment. Prerequisites: PTAP1201, PTAP1210, PTAP1211, PTAP1350, <br />PTAP1400; Co -requisite: PTAP2201 <br />PTAP2525: Clinical Experience I <br />Credit Hours: 5.00 Clock Hours: 0/0/240 <br />This full-time, six week, clinical affiliation will provide the student with initial <br />exposure to the clinical setting. The PTA student will be under the direct <br />supervision of a PT and/or PTA. This clinical affiliation allows students to <br />practice patient care skills, document treatment techniques and enhance <br />communication skills with all health care team members. Prerequisites: <br />PTAP1221,PTAP1240,PTAP1241,PTAP1320,PTAP2201,PTAP2210, <br />PTAP2400 <br />PTAP2535: Clinical Experience II <br />Credit Hours: 5.00 Clock Hours: 0/0/240 <br />This full-time, six week, clinical affiliation, will allow students to expand upon <br />their previous clinical experience and incorporate the knowledge and skills <br />from additional coursework. The student will be under the direct supervision <br />of a PT and/or PTA. Emphasis is placed on the student assuming a more <br />active role with the rehabilitation team for the delivery of care. Prerequisites: <br />PTAP2121, PTAP2220, PTAP2525 <br />PTAP2545: Clinical Experience III <br />Credit Hours: 5.00 Clock Hours: 0/0/240 <br />At the completion of this full-time, six week clinical affiliation, the student <br />goal will be to perform as an entry-level physical therapist assistant. Students <br />participate in this clinical experience under the supervision of a licensed <br />physical therapist and/or physical therapist assistant. Prerequisites: <br />PTAP2131,PTAP2230,PTAP2535 <br />PVN101CR: Personal & Practical/Vocational Concepts <br />Credit Hours: 1.00 Clock Hours: 30/0 <br />This course introduces the student to the role of a student, basic skills for <br />success, nursing history, and trends; nursing ethics; legal aspects of nursing; <br />practical relationships in healthcare, including the role of the <br />practical/vocational and professional nurse; and nursing education. Co - <br />requisite: PVN103CR <br />PVN102CR: Foundations of Nursing <br />Credit Hours: 1.00 Clock Hours: 30/0 <br />Students are introduced to nursing concepts and principles. Students are <br />given an overview ofthe nurse -client relationship, principles of therapeutic <br />communication, and cultural diversity among clients. Patient care is <br />discussed through the life span, including care of the geriatric client. Death <br />and dying concerns are introduced and discussed. Steps of the nursing <br />process are presented asthe frameworkfor determining and meeting clients' <br />needs within the scope of practice. Co -requisite: PVN103CR <br />PVN103CR: Clinical Practice I <br />Credit Hours: 3.00 Clock Hours: 0/100 <br />This course provides the student with the opportunityto learn and practice <br />in the skills laboratory basic nursing principles and procedures related to <br />meetingthe daily needs of clients. Safetyas a key element in care is <br />introduced. The nursing process is Integrated with an emphasis on all <br />components using standardized nursing language. Nursing skills include <br />gathering data related to vital signs, bed and bath of the client, skin care, <br />standard precautions, asepsis, basic care procedures, and activities of daily <br />living (ADL) support skills. Documentation is emphasized in this course and <br />the student is introduced to providing appropriate client information.The <br />nursing student is introduced to computers and the Windows environment. <br />The student is given the skills necessary for Basic Life Support certification <br />(Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation -CPR). <br />PVN104CR: College Mathematics <br />Credit Hours: 2.00 Clock Hours: 45/0 <br />This course covers principles and applications of whole numbers, fractions, <br />decimals, percentages, ratio, proportions, measurements, statistics, basic <br />algebra, and geometry. The metric system, the apothecary system, and <br />conversion between systems are presented. Allied health applications are <br />discussed. Co -requisite: PVN103CR <br />PVN105CR: Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology <br />Credit Hours: 2.00 Clock Hours: 45/0 <br />This course introduces the student to the structure and function of the body. <br />Directions, geometric planes, and cavities of the body are presented. Cells, <br />tissues, organs, and systems are discussed. The major organs of each system <br />and how they relate to the overall status of the body are covered. Co - <br />requisite: PVN103CR <br />PVN106CR: Pharmacology <br />Credit Hours: 2.00 Clock Hours: 45/0 <br />This course focuses on dosages, applications, side effects, toxicity, and <br />laboratorytests performed to monitor actions and effects of specific drugs. <br />Issues involved with I.V. (intravenous) monitoring will be covered. Drug <br />calculation examinations must be passed with a score of 85 percent.
