General Policies & Information <br />r A •r. •r. <br />ATA's faculty and staff are available to advise students on academic problems and, if necessary, to provide referral to <br />special counseling services when deemed appropriate. All efforts will be made to provide a supportive environment to <br />assist each student in maintaining his/her academic progress in order to successfully complete the program. <br />Students must submit a Request Form indicating any change of address or telephone number(s) immediately to the <br />Student Services department. Request forms are available at the front desk. <br />GENERAL ASSISTANCE (HOUSING CHILD CARE,_ TRANSPORTATION <br />ATA does not have any dormitory facilities under its control but maintains information pertaining to local temporary <br />housing, child-care facilities, babysitting services, and local transportation, all of which will be provided upon request. <br />ATA also does not have any responsibility to find or assist a student in finding housing. In the city of Carson, rent for a <br />one -bedroom apartment can vary greatly from $800.00 to $2,000.00 per month. If other information is required, please <br />make your request at the front desk. <br />The institution offers its graduates skill refresher courses. Courses or modules may be audited at no additional charge, <br />subject to space and equipment availability. The cost of any books and supplies will be the responsibility of the graduate. <br />Upon requesting a refresher course, graduates will meet with the director of education for an assessment of the <br />graduate's specific needs. In order to audit the course, the graduate must have graduated from the school within the <br />previous 12 months. <br />The Career Services Department is a vital part of the student's educational program. Although employment cannot be <br />guaranteed, the purpose of the department is to actively assist students and graduates in obtaining desirable <br />employment. The American Trade Academy provides job placement services, and the Career Services Department <br />assists students and graduates in a broad range of career planning and advising including: interviewing skills and follow- <br />up; developing job opportunities through leads and networking; the full hiring cycle starting with resumes and job <br />applications; and professional attire workshops. Graduates receive an ATA Certificate of Completion and qualify for <br />entry-level positions in fiber, copper, cable, satellite telecommunications, audio/video, security, and low voltage wiring <br />or in the private security guard employment fields. <br />Students and graduates are strongly encouraged to take advantage of every opportunity to work with the Career Services <br />Department to sharpen their interviewing and presentation skills. Successful employment assistance is dependent upon <br />a mutual, dedicated effort by both the graduate and the Career Services Department. Graduates are also encouraged <br />to aggressively seek employment opportunities on their own, keep records of their contacts, and inform their Career <br />Services department of these efforts. <br />Employment assistance services are available to all students who successfully complete the requirements for graduation <br />in their program. Employment opportunities may be limited for anyone who has a criminal background.
