General Policies & Information <br />When problems arise, students should make every attempt through ATA's formal complaint procedure to find a fair and <br />reasonable solution to the matter. Students are encouraged to bring any complaints first to the attention of their Instructor <br />who will attempt to resolve the problem. If the instructor is unsuccessful or unable to assist the student, then s/he will <br />notify the director of education or school director who will investigate the complaint by gathering information and <br />documentation. Upon the school director's review and determination, the student will be informed of the decision and a <br />summary of the decision maintained on file. <br />Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE): A student or any member of the public may file a complaint <br />about this institution with the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education by calling (888) 370-7589 or by completing a <br />complaint form, which can be obtained on the bureau's internet web site: www.bppe.ca.gov. <br />Unresolved complaints may also be directed to the state licensing agency by mail: Bureau for Private Postsecondary <br />Education (BPPE) at 2535 Capitol Oaks Drive, Suite 400, Sacramento, CA 95833. <br />WIA participants also may be directed to their respective WIA representatives. Participants are requested to see the <br />Student Services department for their counselor's address and phone number. <br />The institution prohibits all persons who enter school property from carrying weapons of any kind, regardless of whether <br />or not the person is licensed to carry the weapon. Failure to abide by this policy will lead to dismissal. <br />STUDENT RECORD RETENTION <br />The College will maintain student records for each student, whether or not the student completes the educational <br />program, for a period ending five years after the date of the student's graduation, withdrawal, or termination (with the <br />exception of students who cancel their program). Student transcripts will be maintained indefinitely. The student records <br />shall be retrievable by student name and shall contain all of the following applicable information: <br />• Written records and transcripts of any formal education or training relevant to the student's qualifications for <br />admission to the College; <br />• Copies of all documents signed by the student, including contracts, instruments of indebtedness, and documents <br />relating to financial aid; <br />• Copies of all tests given to the student before admission; records of the dates of enrollment and, if applicable, <br />withdrawal, leaves of absence, and graduation; <br />• A transcript showing all of the classes and courses or other educational services that were completed or were <br />attempted but not completed and grades or evaluations given to the student; <br />• A copy of documents relating to student financial aid that are required to be maintained by law or by a loan <br />guarantee agency; <br />• A document showing the total amount of money received from or on behalf of the student and the date or dates <br />on which the money was received; <br />• A document specifying the amount of a refund, including the amount refunded for tuition and the amount for <br />equipment, the method of calculating the refund, the date the refund was made, the check number of the refund, <br />and the name and address of the person or entity to which the refund was sent; <br />• Copies of any official advisory notices or warnings regarding the student's progress; and <br />• Complaints received from the student, including any correspondence, notes, memoranda, or telephone logs <br />relating to a complaint. <br />• The College shall maintain records of student attendance. <br />STUDENT TUITION RECO!/ERY FUND (BYRE) DISCLOSURES <br />(a) A qualifying institution shall include the following statement on both its enrollment agreement and school catalog: <br />"The State of California established the Student Tuition Recovery Fund (STRF) to relieve or mitigate economic loss <br />suffered by a student in an educational program at a qualifying institution, who Is or was a California resident while <br />enrolled, or was enrolled in a residency program, if the student enrolled in the institution, prepaid tuition, and suffered an <br />economic loss. Unless relieved of the obligation to do so, you must pay the state -imposed assessment for the STRF, or <br />American Trade Academy School Catalog Page 21 <br />
