Orozco, Norma
From: Virginia Bernal <v_bernal@sbcglobal.net>
Sent: Wednesday, May 12, 2021 1:30 PM
To: eComment
Subject: Protect Santa from lead and other environmental toxins
Categories: Correspondence
Dear Santa Ana City Council and Mayor Sarmiento,
I am group leader of the CA OC North-Central Chapter of Citizens' Climate Lobby. As some city council members know,
from our past communications in June 2019 when the council adopted Resolution 2019-037 encouraging our US
Congress to pass the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, my organization is laser -focused on climate policy to
reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
We collaborate with other environmental organizations with broader scope, fully aware that climate change impacts are
far ranging. Thus, I want to express full support for the contributions of many local organizations to the text of the
Climate Emergency Resolution being introduced by Council Member Jessie Lopez. It is a bold plea made by the young —
the generation that will feel the greater impacts of climate change —for our city to confront the Climate Emergency with
several approaches including lowering our city's fossil fuel dependence, local control of our electric power via CCE,
addressing contamination & health inequities, environmental and socioeconomic justice issues such as parks and open
spaces, job creation and training, and collective bargaining.
This Climate Emergency Resolution is bold and inclusive, passionately felt and reasonable given the realities our city
faces.
I encourage you, City Council members, to adopt it and commit to work on the requested solutions.
Please commit to taking local action to explore policies that stop fossil fuel expansion, speed up the clean energy
transition, reduce local pollution, and empower our local community and economy.
Thank you,
Virginia Bernal
Citizens Climate Lobby
CA OC North Central Chapter
714-878-5099
Virginia Bernal, 92703
41
