QualityImprovementsof Life <br />In Partnership with the Cities of Costa Mesa and Newport Beach, the County of Orange, Orange County Flood Control <br />District, Orange County Water District, and Irvine Ranch Water District with support from "Defend the Bay" non-profit <br />■Helps improve regional water self-reliance to combat climate change. <br />■Reduces both visible and non -visible pollutants to Newport Bay, while improving the water quality in <br />the Bay and at the nearby beaches <br />■Enhances recreation and protects the beneficial uses of the Bay, and the reduced Selenium helps <br />protect wildlife. <br />■Reduced bacteria in the Bay and nearby beaches improves conditions for swimmers, and reduces <br />nutrients that can contribute to harmful algal blooms <br />■Project's trash capture system helps prevent trash from getting into the Bay during dry -weather and <br />first -flush storm conditions. <br />■Increases local potable water supplies through the diversion of 2.9 MGD of dry -weather urban runoff <br />from the Channel for advanced treatment and reuse. <br />■Diverted water is used by OCWD for groundwater recharge and/or injection into the salt -water <br />intrusion barrier. <br />
