Richard Coupland
August 17, 2021
Page 3
residential uses are processed at 2653 Santiago Road in the City of Taft. Food waste
from commercial uses are processed at 2050 Glassell Street in the City of Orange.
Disposals occur at the Bowerman Landfill in the City of Irvine and Moreno Valley
for land application. Figure 4 presents the hauling routes along with the required
travel distance for Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) shown in red, Recycling shown in
green, Green/Food Waste Residential shown in blue and Food Waste Commercial
shown in orange.
VMT CALCULATIONS
To calculate the VMT for all four potential waste management companies the
assumptions used in this letter were the same for each user. As such, it has been
assumed that 59 trucks would be needed resulting in 36.5 trucks required for MSW
routes, 13.5 trucks required for recycling, 4.5 trucks required for green/food waste for
residential uses and 4.5 trucks required for food waste for commercial uses. Google
maps was used to measure the most direct route from the haul yard, transfer station,
recycle facility, green/food waste facilities, and disposal facilities. Below highlights
key information used to develop VMT for each potential waste management
company.
Republic
A. Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Route
• Start at Anaheim haul yard and travel to Santa Anal for collections
(8.4 miles one-way trip)
• Midday load goes from Santa Ana to Irvine Bowerman Landfill (24
miles round trip)
• End of day load goes from Santa Ana to Anaheim transfer station (8.4
miles one-way trip)
• Transfer station to Irvine Bowerman Landfill (44.2 miles round trip)
assuming 2.5 trash truck loads fit in 1 transfer load truck
• Collections 40.8 miles x 36.5 trucks per day =1,489 VMT
Post Collections 44.2 miles x 14.6 loads per day = 645 VMT
Total Daily VMT = 2,134 VMT
• Figure I present the Republic MSW Route highlighted in red along
with the midday route in dashed red.
B. Recycling Route
• Start at Anaheim haul yard and travel to Santa Anal for collections
(8.4 miles one-way trip)
• Midday load goes from Santa Ana to Anaheim transfer station (16.8
miles round trip)
It has been assumed that the trash collections starts from the City center.
N\4 1214494-Republic Saviors -Sautes AvaVMTAsse.tuepM\4 Repubk Sav S.AvaVMTAs...tS-17-2521dove
