Ara. Fatima
From: 1k'11k@FDS[oasta|zom>
Sent: Monday, October O4, 20219:10AM
To: eCornment
Subject: Rent Control
October 4,202l
Dear Mr. Mayor & Councilmembers,
Inmnrental-housing provider in Santa Ana and I wish to express my opposition in the strongest words to the proposed
"City ofSanta Ana Community Preservation, Rent Stabilization, Tenants' Rights Act" that appears on the October 5th city
council agenda.
The proposal may seek to assist renters, but to now consider such uproposal on the heels ofnearly two years ofC0VID
restrictions wherein choomN {o continue to housingd without
vv nprovuzcrmxrc[lDl o c provide n many oocm being
paid. We were required to provide the maintenance to maintain our investment and had absolutely no recourse if a tenant
did not pay. This is an egregious response to us who are loyal to our tenants, and the city inwhich vvc do business.
The effect ofsuch rent cmnLonndcause eviction U vdoLhccrncLoppoaU ILv
impact rcnLcra, rental -housing providers, and theneighborhoods where they are located, in addition Loharming property
values, compromising public safety and quality of life, and more.
We are bx±ccduroud toprovide housing in 8nnLn Ann in fact weprovide property that is 'bca of the block" but with the
novcacnbzd onofcoaLhnLcnnnoLbc Ivou]dask hovdovc continue Lodobusiness hcrc7
As ncommunity partner inLhccnndnbUvLoprovide insight
p rununouynprov'our uy,nycrcrncc _—, xm,. -`,
N bdm LoLcnnnL d d would bn/nbob| cLLoLh ctna Iheard the
rovxzcocnon solutions tenants in and vou be cnaa the city
cmnonocnL from n CouncUmcmbcrthat vvc have to 'lry aonocLhhno ditfercnl"nonvbc so, but this is not it!
At NO POINT did the city reach out to SEEK MY INPUT or MAKE M£ /\YV/\ILE that such nproposal was being
actively developed. Instead, the city blindsided me and my fellow rental-hou sing providers with a proposal that:
wOversteps existing state laws and imposes onerous restrictions that affect myability Loprovide ente ouoULv
housing Lomytenants.
w £Umbuzbes my ability, and the abilityofother responsible landlords, to control and ndmLfor costs that
impact our rental business operations.
* Undermines the very nature of existing housing law as it pertains to the rental industry.
Ibelieve that the proposed "City ofSanta Ana Community Preservation, Rent Stabilization, Tenants' Right/\cL is
severely flawed and punitive /cagainst rental -housing providers who continue to provide housing to our Santa
Residents. For these reasons and those highlighted above, I rcapccLhdOv ask that the city Lokc no ftirthcrncLiomn on this
matter unL | such time as the city can engage in additional study and engage in discussions with rental housing providers
in the city.
Juo/cm JK|oh/kik
