Our Beliefs On <br />Race Equity <br />and Parent <br />Engagement <br />Race equity in early childhood systems means that all <br />children can reach their fullest potential, no matter their race <br />or ethnicity. Additionally, it means that parents are included <br />in their children's learning and healthy development because <br />they are seen as true partners, advocates, and leaders. <br />Race equity in early childhood systems means that parents <br />are invited to be partners in early childhood systems. <br />Achieving race equity in early childhood systems means <br />the systems that serve young children and their families <br />must change. <br />Why Race Equity and <br />Parent Engagement? <br />Racism plays a major role in <br />shaping and reinforcing inequitable <br />outcomes for children and families. <br />Authentically engaging parents <br />has great potential to create and <br />expand positive and equitable <br />outcomes for children. <br />Implicit bias, access to opportunities <br />and power influence how <br />families engage and lead within <br />early childhood systems. <br />EC UNC Page4 <br />
