I've written in before, I live near the riverbed and have
been watching the round ups and clear outs of our houseless neighbors for years. I applaud El Centro for not
shuffling people into other neighborhoods and instead doing everything they/we could to find long term and
more effective solutions.
I think most of us can agree that this is complex and has been a pretty intense struggle between the county - the
city of Santa Ana - and residents. I ask you to be the type of council that supports it's residents in working
towards real solutions instead of passing this bill, this "problem" on to someone else. El Centro took a stand and
did a lot of good. I had not seen the city do so much when they do removals of houseless folks to actually get
them the help and support they need to get off the streets which is the only way to really solve this. Doing
anything less just makes this problem less visible and leaves for someone else to deal with.
As a Mother and a Teacher I hope you show our next generations that when they try to do right by those who
are suffering, that the people who are in positions of power will support those efforts & collaborate, not shame
& bill them for the work they did.
--
Gracias,
Marlha Sanchez

1
