16. Hold Sixth Public Hearing Regarding Redistricting Ward Boundaries <br />Resolution of Intention No. 2021-060 published in the Orange County Register on <br />October 23 and 30, 2021. <br />Department(s): Clerk of the Council Office <br />Recommended Action: Open and close the sixth public hearing seeking input <br />regarding the content of the draft map(s). <br />MINUTES: Mayor Sarmiento opened the public hearing at 7:06 p.m. <br />Consultant Paul Mitchell with Redistricting Partners provided a brief presentation. <br />Ana Charco with Santa Ana Redistricting Coalition (SARC) spoke on the various <br />communities of interest the coalition identified in their draft maps: SARC1 and <br />SARC2 and encouraged council to adopt one of them. Noted that the communities <br />of interest should represent <br />Sarai Arpero spoke in support of her community around Chestnut and Halladay and <br />urged council to support the Santa Ana Redistricting Coalition map 1. Noted that <br />the districts should represent the communities of interest rather than power votes. <br />Clerk of the Council, Daisy Gomez, reported out on eComments received for item <br />16. <br />Araceli Robles supports the map presented by the Santa Ana Redistricting <br />Coalition. Requested that her community be supported and that the map chosen <br />represent her community. <br />Silvia Hernandez described her community of interest. Spoke in support of the map <br />presented by the Santa Ana Redistricting Coalition and asked council to consider <br />it. <br />Dale Helvig encouraged council to keep communities in tact based on what is best <br />for the City of Santa Ana and expressed concern with the prison population data. <br />Executive Director of Chispa Hairo Cortez spoke in support of the proposed maps <br />submitted by the Santa Ana Redistricting Coalition. Expressed concern with the <br />revised Santa Ana Goals Southern district. Urged council to adopt one of the SARC <br />maps. <br />Gerson Nunez with Orange County Congregation Community Organization <br />City Council 12 2/1/2022 <br />
