COUNCILMEMBER REQUESTED ITEMS <br />19. Discuss and Consider Directing City Manager to Direct Staff to Introduce a Firearms <br />Safe Storage Ordinance — Councilmembers Mendoza and Lopez <br />MINUTES: Councilmember Lopez expressed reasons for supporting item. Asked <br />colleagues to advance this item to the Public Safety Committee. After their <br />research, have the item brought back to council at a future council meeting. <br />Councilmember Mendoza supportive of item. Requested staff do more research <br />and bring the item back to council. <br />Councilmember Penaloza supportive of item whether it's an ordinance or a public <br />safety campaign, and have it be considered by the Public Safety Committee. <br />Councilmember Phan agrees in part with Councilmember Penaloza. Supportive of <br />it being considered by the Public Safety Committee. Wants to see how safe storage <br />is addressed when it is being transported. Requested the item be brought back to a <br />future council meeting. <br />Council Member Hernandez supports seeing a firearm safe storage ordinance. <br />Wants to see a policy brought back from the staff that is rooted in equity and safety. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Bacerra supportive of item going to the Public Safety Committee. <br />Requested staff bring back information showing the practicality of how it would be <br />applied, enforced and what a possible ordinance would like. <br />Mayor Sarmiento supportive of item. Requested item be brought back to council <br />after it has been considered by the Public Safety Committee. <br />20. Discuss and Consider Directing City Manager to Direct Staff to Review and Amend <br />the City Council Recognition Policy— Councilmember Phan <br />MINUTES: Councilmember Phan requested to update resolution to contact City <br />Manager's Office 14 days in advance of a council meeting. Requested that <br />individual councilmembers be given the option to issue a certificate of recognition <br />rather than have it be issued by the entire council. Also, asked staff to advise if there <br />is anything in the resolution that needs to be updated from their perspective with the <br />recognition policy that might be outdated or no longer useful. <br />Councilmember Lopez expressed support for Councilmember Phan's requests. <br />Councilmember Penaloza supportive of item. <br />Mayor Pro Tern Bacerra supportive of the effort. <br />City Council 19 2/1/2022 <br />
