Santa Ana City Council and Mayor S,ACRe4
City of Santa Ana
20 Civic Center Plaza
Santa Ana, CA 92701
Cc:THRIVE Santa Ana, Inc.
P.O. BOX 1935
Santa Ana, CA 92702
June 7, 2022
RE: In support of Agenda Item#9 and THRIVE Santa Ana
Dear Santa Ana City Council and Mayor,
Santa Ana Collaborative for Responsible Development(SACReD) is writing this letter in support of THRIVE Santa Ana and the
City of Santa Ana consent and approval on item#9, regarding the Walnut and Daisy Community Micro-Farm
We wholeheartedly support THRIVE's vision of economic development led by local residents, and we have pledged to support
future projects on land acquired by this community land trust(CLT). Working together with residents, businesses, nonprofit
and public agencies,we can foster sustainable development that benefits all Santa Ana residents. This community driven
project will provide a model for economic development rooted in community participation. The CLT is a key strategy to engage
local residents in the development process.
We are requesting that City Council approve an Amendment to THRIVE's Disposition and Development Agreement(DDA),
allowing completion of the final DDA milestones before December 2022.
THRIVE has recently resubmitted construction plans incorporating comments from Planning, Building, and Public Works, and
expect permit approvals in the coming weeks. Santa Ana is very close to seeing this historic development become a reality but
needs your support. Without your support, this historic development may not move forward.
The updated DDA timeline also allows for THRIVE to move forward with soil remediation at the site, to make sure the land is
safe for community use, and to complete fundraising efforts before the end of the year. As you may know, COVID-19
dramatically increased the cost of construction, and this has impacted the project's budget.
SACReD stands ready to assist in such efforts to reduce income inequality, expanding economic opportunities for low-income
residents of Santa Ana. We look forward to assisting THRIVE and the Santa Ana community in fulfilling this mission.
Please support the June 7th agenda item regarding the Walnut and Daisy Micro-Farm.Thank you in advance for your support.
Sincerely,
Apolonio Cortez
Coordinator
Santa Ana Collaborative for Responsible Development
837 N Ross St Santa Ana, CA 92701
